Mass General Giving

Robert Young, MD, senior genitourinary and gynecological pathologist in the Mass General Cancer Center, has built an international reputation for the remarkable accuracy and efficiency of his diagnoses.

Countless patients, both at Mass General and abroad, have received successful treatment because of Dr. Young’s ability to accurately identify the type of cancer they have, even when it is an exceedingly rare type. Though he is one of many expert diagnostic pathologists at Mass General, Dr. Young is much sought-after for consultations by urologists and gynecological oncologists because he presents his findings expeditiously and directly and always with the utmost attention to the significance of his diagnosis to the patient.

Dr. Young regularly lectures around the world, sharing his immense knowledge and experience with his peers. To help prepare future generations of pathologists for their careers, he has authored what are widely considered the definitive textbooks on gynecological and genitourinary pathology. In addition, in collaboration with David Louis, MD, chief of pathology at Mass General, he edited, Keen Minds to Explore the Dark Continents of Disease: A History of the Pathology Services at the Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dr. Louis describes his colleague as a “consummate clinician whose incomparable experience makes him the ‘go-to’ diagnostic pathologist in both genitourinary and gynecological pathology.”
