On Sunday, June 2, 2019 we will be hosting the second annual “Strike Cancer” in support of Lung Cancer Research at Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center. Register for the event here.
In the fall of 2013 our father was diagnosed with advanced stage lung cancer. His diagnosis came out of nowhere and devastated our family – we were only 9 and 11 years old at the time. What made it even more unbelievable was that our father is an ultramarathon runner and avid triathlete who never smoked and leads a very healthy lifestyle. Nearly 20% of lung cancer patients are nonsmokers and two-thirds of the non-smokers who get lung cancer are women, also lung cancer is the leading cause of death among female and male cancer patients.
However, advanced cancer research at Massachusetts General Hospital offers great hope. Dr. Alice Shaw and her research team at MGHCC have been conducting groundbreaking research to better treat lung cancer. Their work has significantly lengthened the lives of individuals diagnosed with advanced cancer, including our dad. The discoveries these researcher have made, and continue to make, help advance treatments for other forms of cancer, ranging from melanoma to colon cancer.
Our father’s optimism, courage, and strength have been a true inspiration to our family. He celebrates life and finds joy every day. Thanks to advanced biological medications developed by Dr. Shaw and her team, he is able to continue to live life to the fullest. We are very fortunate that he has access to such treatments.
Please support this cause that is so near and dear to our heart by bowling with us and/or making a donation to Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center. By registering and/or donating through our website, the funds will go directly to finding treatments for this terrible disease. This means so much to us. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at email@example.com.
