A Shot for Life, (ASFL) is a quickly expanding cancer research nonprofit organization that is dedicated to raising money through high level basketball.

We are proud to be the exclusive provider of the Battle of the Badges basketball game between the Boston Police and the Boston Fire Departments. On April 3rd of 2016 we ran the first ever charity basketball game between the BPD and the BFD at Catholic Memorial High School in West Roxbury. Proceeds from this event benefit brain cancer research at Mass General Cancer Center under the direction of Dr. Will Curry.

Boston Policemen and Firemen, by the nature of their job, put their lives on the line routinely to ensure the safety of the general public. Their commitment to play in an annual basketball game to raise money for brain cancer research, on top of the sacrifices they already make, speaks volumes about the culture of their departments.

In the inaugural game the Boston Police Department came away with the victory. The Fire Department’s chance for a rematch will be March 25th, 2017 at Catholic Memorial High School. For the event this year, the City of Boston will show it’s support by lighting up the Boston Garden and the Zakim Bridge in blue and red in honor of both departments.

This initiative is a registered Mass General Community Fundraiser. Mass General does not enter into direct sponsorship of this effort, provide any financial support, or assume any liability for its conduct. If you have any questions, please contact the Mass General Community Fundraising Team.
