We are delighted to announce the second annual Love for Lurie event in Boston! Please join us at the Barking Crab on April 1st from 4-8pm to celebrate and support Mass General’s Lurie Center for Autism.
About the Lurie Center for Autism
The Lurie Center is focused on the diagnosis and treatment of children, adolescents, and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other developmental disorders. According to the Centers for Disease Control, 1 in 68 children are diagnosed with ASD. The Lurie Center is confronting this issue with an innovative, multidisciplinary approach to care. Patients of the Lurie Center and their families have access to leaders in the fields of developmental medicine, psychology, neurology, gastroenterology, and psychopharmacology. Complementary on-site, therapeutic services for all ages are also available. These include physical, occupational, speech and language and recreational therapies. The Lurie Center’s unique model allows for effective communication across specialists, leading to optimal care for each individual patient that continues over the course of their lifetime. Another critical differentiating component of the Lurie Center’s offering is its one-of-a-kind family resources group dedicated to helping families navigate the incredibly murky waters of the Autism world. There is no other program like the Lurie Center.
Our son was diagnosed with ASD by the Lurie Center in December, 2014. Since then, through exceptional clinical care, and support from the family resources group, we have seen progress in our son that we only dreamed possible when we received this life-changing diagnosis.
We have dedicated ourselves to supporting the Lurie Center in its effort to ensure that other families in need of quality care have the same chance for success. Among the Center’s future goals is to implement a teleconferencing platform that will make this dream possible for more and more people. This is one of the many ground breaking research endeavors underway.
The Lurie Center is fast becoming one of the world’s leaders in basic, clinical and translational autism research with an emphasis on daily application of this research to clinical care, creating more effective therapies, and treatments for autism patients.
How You Can Help!
None of this is possible without philanthropy! The Lurie Center loses money on every clinical visit. Despite this, the team is dedicated to providing as many patients as possible with the services that they and their families need. Please join us in supporting this great institution.
Thank you to the Freni, and Basak families for participating in this year’s event. In support of the Lurie Center, Mike Freni will be running his tenth Boston Marathon! His brother, Rob will be running with him for the sixth time, and his brother, Chris will be running his first marathon.
Join us at the Barking Crab for food, open bar, live music, and AWESOME raffle/silent auction items! We’ve decided to make it a theme party this year, so dig up your best 80’s gear! Tickets are $65 in advance and $75 day of.
If you are unable to attend, please consider a donation in support of Mass General’s Lurie Center. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the Lurie Center. Your generosity means the world to all of us. Thank you.
