The 2019 Home Base Veterans Day Dinner will raise funds to help heal the invisible wounds for Veterans and their Families. The evening is an opportunity for the community to stand together in recognition of the sacrifices made by those who have served in uniform and their families.
We are still finalizing our keynote speaker for the event and have confirmed that we will have a special performance by songwriter, James House, and some of our Home Base Veterans who participated in a pilot program with SongwritingWith: Soldiers. In the fall of 2018 Home Base partnered with SongwritingWith: Soldiers, a nonprofit organization that pairs service members with professional songwriters, Darden Smith and James House, to craft songs about their experiences, often about combat and the return home. The mission: turning Veterans into songwriters and helping them heal…one song at a time. Ten Home Base Veterans participated in this pilot, which was spearheaded by Drs. Louisa Sylvia and Ron Hirschberg.
We are excited to have some of these Veterans perform their songs for you on November 7th. Also, if you’d like to learn more about the program, the Harvard Gazette spoke with two of the Veterans who participated in it and wrote an article, providing an inside look into the journey of healing through song.
