The story behind this beer festival is an extraordinary one with an unexpected beginning:
It sadly began with Tim Breen losing a dear friend, Ben Weiner, to brain cancer in the summer of 2018. Prior to Ben’s death, Tim introduced him to Justin Perry, another friend battling a rare form of lung cancer. At the time, Tim anticipated the extent of the relationship between Ben and Justin to amount to nothing more than two guys hanging out with a mutual friend. What Tim didn’t know was that his introduction had a profound impact on these two men. Ben and Justin began reaching out to one another during some of their darkest moments to express fear of the unknown and to provide one another with support and encouragement.
The concept was a beautiful one: young people affected by rare diseases caring for others in a similar situation by simply being there in the middle of the night, during the worst moments of treatment, or when it all felt so overwhelming and by providing understanding for the parts of the fight loved ones just cannot comprehend.
This unique friendship sparked an idea in Justin. He and Ben’s parents teamed up with Mass General to create a support network for young adults battling cancer. The goal is to connect young men and women fighting similar fights and foster relationships based on understanding and comfort from others who can truly relate to their situations.
That brings us to now, to helping bring this goal to fruition. The 1st annual Crafts for a Cause will be held as a fundraiser with every dime donated to this amazing cause.
Crafts for a Cause will feature over thirty breweries, food trucks, live music, games, and hopefully the most perfect kick off to summer imaginable. Justin, Ben’s friends and family, and all of us touched by this incredible story invite you to come out, sample hundreds of craft beers from all across New England, and help us to change the world for the better. We appreciate you reading, and can’t wait to see you on May 18th, 2019.
