Good Ideas for your Community Fundraiser

A BAKE SALE

A great way to incorporate children or busy friends into a fundraising endeavor is to ask them to contribute to a food sale! A class of elementary school students can bake cupcakes to sell to classmates or parents.

GOLF/SPORTING TOURNAMENT

A tournament is a great way to raise money and unite people with a common interest. While a tournament can be more labor-intensive than other events, the rewards will typically more than double the initial effort.

ROAD RACE OR WALK-A-THON

New England has proved time and again to be an ideal place for a road race. Beautiful scenery and great weather create the perfect atmosphere for your participants to take to the road whether by bike or on foot. If you choose to hold a road race, remember that it may be necessary to secure city permits, provide refreshments to your participants and advertise your event.

GALAS & DINNERS

A gala is a popular fundraising choice because the scope of the event is limited only by your creativity! Former events have ranged from neighborhood barbeques to formal banquets at Boston’s swankiest venues. These events can be costly to throw, so it is important to consider initial budget in your fundraising goals.

DONATIONS IN LIEU OF GIFTS

A great way to turn an already-planned celebratory event into a fundraising endeavor is to ask guests to bring a check made out to Mass General in the amount they planned to spend on a gift for the host or hostess.

GET CREATIVE

An excellent way to get inspiration for your event is to think about what makes your event special. Are you hoping to honor a friend or family member? If so, what are his or her special interests or hobbies? Incorporating these ideas can be a great way to make a commemorative event even more personal! Any event will be easier to plan when you tailor it to things that hold a special meaning for you or your co-planners. A past fundraiser and his friends from the gym collected donations to push 300-pound barrels for five miles! No idea is too small or specific – our Development Team is happy to help you create an event around whatever interests you.

PARTICIPATE IN OTHER EVENTS

There are many ways to give back to a cause close to your heart without having to plan your own fundraiser. Look to your local community, sign up for a 5K, or volunteer – there are many ways to get involved and help support the various programs at Mass General. All it takes is filling out our simple sign up form to get started!
