The one hundred honoree: Stephen Herskovitz

by
Mass General Giving

As the director of Marketing, Education and Communications at the Mass General Cancer Center, Steve has a guiding hand in all of it: advertising, public relations, internal and external communications, network communications, patient education and so much more. Over the course of his career, he’s become deeply involved in patient experience and education initiatives, including the development of the Maxwell V. Blum Cancer Support and Education Hub and the annual survivorship program.

On any given day, Steve can be seen interacting with a myriad of people at the Cancer Center. You may find him talking to an oncologist about a new program website. Brainstorming with his team on the whiteboard in his office. Responding to a media inquiry about a new discovery. Or presenting a new supportive care services app to patient and family council members. Steve also launched Mass General’s “Everyday Amazing” branding campaign, and has increased the hospital’s presence on local radio networks in addition to events throughout New England.

What’s more, Steve is a big part of the culture at the Cancer Center, keeping people smiling with everything from winter hats to offbeat videos and art projects. It all adds up to a leadership role that has a real impact on both staff and patients. In the words of a colleague, “Steve is incredibly thoughtful, and has the most incredible insights on so many different facets of cancer care which shape our strategy and propel our vision forward.”
