The one hundred honoree: Ian Nagus, PA-C, MS

by
Mass General Giving

Ian Nagus, PA-C, MS, was raised on the North Shore, and now gives back to his community by providing compassionate care to patients at the North Shore Medical Center (NSMC).

Ian works as a physician assistant for the Mass General / North Shore Cancer Center in support of the inpatient hematology and medical oncology consultation service at NSMC. He is a strong presence at all points along the spectrum of care of oncology patients–from diagnosis, through treatment, to hospice and palliative care. Peter Yang, MD, a supervising physician who works directly with Ian, knows him as “a compassionate and dedicated clinician who consistently makes an extra effort on behalf of his patients.”

Ian is known for spending time with patients and their families to educate them about their condition, results and treatment. He learns extensively about his patients’ issues. He places a strong emphasis on communicating with the rest of his patients’ clinical teams to facilitate comprehensive & multidisciplinary care. And for patients transitioning care, he serves as the “glue,” coordinating logistics to ensure a seamless flow between their hospitalization and outpatient follow-up.

In short, Ian is a vital resource to the oncology nursing staff and to the non-oncology MDs and nurses at the North Shore Medical Center. Joel Schwartz, MD, puts it best: “Patient service has benefited immensely from Ian’s presence, and I can think of no one more deserving of this recognition.”
