The one hundred honoree: Harry and Heath Bennett

by
Mass General Giving

At ages 11 and 7, brothers Harry and Heath Bennett are rising entrepreneurs, but they would tell you they’re just helping out a friend.

When their friend Timmy was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, Harry and Heath Bennett decided they wanted to do something to help. So, in the summer of 2016, the two brothers created Bennett Brothers Balm. This was their very own lip balm business, a non-profit venture that benefitted the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where their friend was being treated. The brothers spent most of their summer focused on their new product. They made it, tested it, and packaged it. They were also the driving force behind the marketing of Bennett Brothers Balm, going door to door with flyers to help sell it.

Since June, the brothers have raised more than $2,100 from sales of the lip balm. They also created a special balm for another friend with cancer, and donated all of the profits to help her family pay for expenses. Harry and Heath remain committed to raising money for children’s cancer research, bringing awareness to those fighting this difficult disease every day. Even though they are just beginning, they have aimed for an initial sales goal of $8,787, because 87 is Timmy’s favorite number.

In the words of Meredith Barry, a family friend who has known the brothers their whole lives, “These two boys are true role models in today’s world. They think of others before themselves.”
