The one hundred honoree: Debbie Burke, RN, MSN, MBA

by
Mass General Giving

A breast cancer survivor as well as a superbcaregiver, Debbie Burke is a source of inspiration and encouragement to her coworkers, friends and patients.

In her role as associate chief nurse for Nursing Practice at Mass General, Debbie is much admired for her great teaching skills, leadership and compassionate care. A valued mentor as well as an educator, Debbie enjoys nurturing the talents of those who work with her.

When Debbie was diagnosed with breast cancer, it was no surprise to her many friends and colleagues that she would take her biggest challenge and direct it to help others — and at the same time, have fun.

Five years ago, Debbie launched an annual wine-tasting dinner and silent auction. Although its purpose is to raise funds for the early detection of breast cancer as well as public education and research, Debbie’s friends and colleagues also regard the evening as a tribute to Debbie. By hosting this wildly popular annual event, Debbie has raised more than $90,000 for Mass General’s Center for Cancer Risk Assessment and breast cancer research.
