The one hundred honoree: Dave Bjork

by
Mass General Giving

Dave Bjork has been referred to both online and in person as the #CancerResearchEvangelist as he has made it his mission to enlist as many people as possible to fight cancer at its core, with research for a cure.

A lung cancer survivor and vice president of Development at the National Foundation of Cancer Research (NFCR), Dave connects individuals, businesses, academic institutions and other key influencers to forge strong partnerships in the fight against cancer. He also oversees NFCR’s special events including its Play4TheCure™ sports fundraising platform.

Play4TheCure™ involves athletes at all levels. He created the clear message that NFCR’s Play4theCure™ supports all sports, all colors and all cancers on a platform of unity. He inspires athletes to leverage their love of sports to “play4” those affected by cancer. One hundred percent of the money raised by Play4TheCure™ funds cancer research.

“With his own personal brand of genuine kindness and his talent for building strong relationships, Dave pushes me and all who know him to be a better person, to take the fight to cancer, and to never give up hope that one day, together, we will win,” says nominator Dean Wetherbee.

NFCR has donated more than $330 million to cancer research centers across the country, including the Mass General Cancer Center, where Dave was treated, and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
