This year marks the sixth annual Mass General Transplant Golf Classic. It will take place Monday, July 13, 2015 at the Weston Golf Club. Last year’s tournament was a tremendous success with more than 100 people attending some portion of the day and more than $100,000 raised. We hope to meet or exceed that this year. Please join us to support this important cause!

Much Has Been Accomplished

logo_mgh_transplantThrough the generosity of our five-time Presenting Sponsors, Scott and Heidi Schuster, along with so many others, nearly half of a million dollars has been raised since 2010 by the Transplant Golf Classic (TGC)! These funds have been used to support research at MGH to allow transplants without the need for toxic life-long anti-rejection medications. With this goal, our team has developed approaches to induce immune tolerance, a state where the recipient does not recognize the transplant as foreign.

Many great advances have come from TGC funds. Perhaps most exciting is recent progress with an entirely new tolerance protocol using a specialized population of lymphocytes that are cultivated from the blood of an intended kidney recipient to become “regulatory” so they selectively suppress the recipient’s rejection response to the donor. Unlike conventional immunosuppression, these cells should not compromise the recipient’s beneficial immune responses tha t ward off infections and malignancy. Recently, the MGH team, in collaboration with a team from the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, treated the first kidney recipient to receive this type of regulatory cell therapy. This “first” would have been impossible without philanthropic support.
